Clinical Pilates in Singapore for Rehabilitation After Surgery
Rebuild strength and confidence after surgery with Clinical Pilates
Returning to movement after surgery isn’t something you guess your way through. Clinical Pilates uses controlled, reformer-based exercise to rebuild strength, mobility, balance, and movement control at the right point in your recovery, not before.
At Phoenix Rehab, every patient in our Clinical Pilates in Singapore program is clinically assessed first. If Clinical Pilates fits your stage of recovery, we tell you so, and we tell you when to start. If it doesn’t fit yet, we tell you that too, and what needs to happen first.
Whether you are recovering from orthopedic surgery or progressing through rehabilitation, Clinical Pilates can complement treatment plans when introduced at the appropriate time.
What Is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates adapts Pilates principles for people recovering from injury, surgery, or a musculoskeletal condition. It isn’t a fitness class. It’s built around your assessment, your goals, and your stage of healing.
Depending on what your recovery needs, a program can target movement control, core stability, joint mobility, muscle strength, balance, or coordination for everyday tasks.
At Phoenix Rehab, appointments are conducted on a reformer, with exercises selected according to your rehabilitation stage.
The Phoenix Clinical Pilates Journey
Initial Consultation
Meet with our physiotherapist to discuss your medical history, surgery (if applicable), symptoms, recovery progress, and rehabilitation goals.
Comprehensive Clinical Assessment
We assess your movement, strength, mobility, balance, posture, and functional abilities to determine whether Clinical Pilates is appropriate for your current stage of recovery.
Shape Your Clinical Pilates Plan
Based on your assessment, we develop an individualised reformer-based Clinical Pilates program tailored to your rehabilitation needs, movement goals, and recovery timeline.
Guided Reformer Clinical Pilates
Your appointments will be delivered by Jasmine Ang, a Clinical Pilates instructor at our Jurong East clinic using a reformer. Exercises are progressed according to your recovery, with ongoing guidance and adjustments to support rehabilitation.
Pilates for Rehabilitation After Surgery
Pilates for rehabilitation after surgery can be appropriate during the later stages of recovery once your surgeon or physiotherapist determines that structured exercise can be introduced.
Rather than replacing physiotherapy, Clinical Pilates complements an existing rehabilitation program by helping patients gradually rebuild movement quality, confidence, and functional strength.
Examples of orthopedic procedures where Clinical Pilates can be considered include:
- Knee replacement surgery
- Hip replacement surgery
- ACL reconstruction
- Meniscus surgery
- Shoulder surgery
- Spinal surgery (where appropriate)
- Other orthopedic procedures, based on clinical assessment
When May Pilates Be Suitable After Surgery?
Timing depends on the surgery, your healing progress, and your care team’s clearance.
- Knee replacement: Reformer work typically begins around 10 to 16 weeks post-surgery.
- Hip replacement: Typically begins around 12 weeks post-surgery, once surgeon clearance is given.
- ACL reconstruction: Reformer Pilates typically begins around 6 to 9 weeks post-surgery. When the incisions have fully healed, early swelling has subsided, and the knee has achieved near-full flexion.
Starting too early puts stress on tissue that hasn’t finished healing. That’s why assessment always comes before a program starts, not after. Book an assessment at 8336 6009 (WhatsApp) to see if Clinical Pilates is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
When can I start Clinical Pilates after knee surgery or knee replacement?
The appropriate time to begin Pilates after knee surgery or knee replacement is around 10 to 16 weeks post-surgery, depending on the type of procedure, your healing progress, and your physiotherapist’s assessment. Knee physiotherapy may form part of your rehabilitation before progressing to Clinical Pilates.
Is Clinical Pilates suitable after hip replacement surgery?
Hip physiotherapy can be recommended during the earlier stages of recovery following hip replacement, before progressing to Clinical Pilates. For some individuals, Pilates after hip replacement becomes part of rehabilitation after movement restrictions have been reviewed and your healthcare professional advises that progression is appropriate.
Is Clinical Pilates the same as regular Pilates?
No. Clinical Pilates is adapted to an individual’s rehabilitation needs following a clinical assessment and differs from general fitness Pilates classes.
What is the difference between mat Pilates and reformer Clinical Pilates?
Both mat and reformer Pilates use controlled movements to improve strength, stability, and movement quality. Reformer Clinical Pilates uses a spring-based reformer with adjustable resistance, allowing exercises to be modified according to your rehabilitation needs. At Phoenix Rehab, reformer Pilates Singapore appointments are delivered by our Jurong team following a comprehensive assessment.
What should I wear or bring to a Clinical Pilates appointment?
We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Special footwear is not required, and all necessary equipment is provided during your appointment.
Can anyone join Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is not suitable for everyone at every stage of recovery. Before starting, you’ll undergo a physiotherapy assessment to determine whether the program is appropriate for your condition, rehabilitation goals, and current level of function.
When should I avoid returning to Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is not yet appropriate if you have unhealed surgical wounds, an active infection, significant swelling, uncontrolled pain, medical restrictions from your surgeon, or have not been cleared to begin rehabilitation exercises.
Is Clinical Pilates a replacement for physiotherapy?
No. Clinical Pilates is designed to complement physiotherapy where clinically appropriate. Following an assessment, your physiotherapist will advise whether Clinical Pilates should be incorporated into your rehabilitation program and how it fits within your overall recovery plan.

Amazing experience with Phoenix Rehab, was assisted by Mavis. She’s very kind and professional and did thorough check on my wrist. I feel very comfortable during the process. I went in for thermoplastic splint, and everything went smoothly. She was able to address my needs on my left wrist sprain. They were prompt with appointment process and inquiry. Also the clinic is very close to Tanjong Pagar MRT. I highly recommend!+0Posted on Google![]()

Huge shoutout to Yuna Zhang from Phoenix Rehab for helping in my recovery from golfer’s elbow 🙌 I walked in with persistent elbow pain that was affecting workouts and everyday tasks, and Yuna immediately made me feel confident I was in the right hands. She took the time to properly assess my condition, explain the root cause, and tailor a treatment plan to my specific needs instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach. What I really appreciated was how personalised every session felt. The exercises she gave me were practical, easy to follow, and actually worked. Within a short time, the pain reduced significantly and my strength and mobility improved much faster than I expected. On top of that, the pricing is very reasonable and affordable, which made committing to recovery much easier. Professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring — highly recommend Yuna at Phoenix Rehab if you’re dealing with hand-related sports injuries 💪+0Posted on Google![]()
