The wrist was fine until you picked up the weights again.
Why it comes back when you go back
A hand or wrist that has been rested, splinted and exercised on a table top can look recovered. It bends, it grips, it does not hurt sitting still. Then you go back to the pram, the barbell, or the toddler on one hip, and by that evening it aches again.
The joint was treated. The rest of the arm was not. Through the weeks in a splint the shoulder and trunk did less, and the way you lifted and carried quietly changed to protect the injury. When the first real demand arrives, it lands on tissue that has not been loaded in months.
That is the gap Jasmine works in.
Who Jasmine is
Jasmine Ang is a hand occupational therapist. She qualified in 2019 and spent seven years in hospital outpatient hand therapy before joining Phoenix Rehab: four years at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and three at Jurong Medical Centre, working with hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder injuries, custom splinting and post-operative care.
What she does while the hand is still splinted
Most of the body is not injured. While a wrist or thumb is splinted, the joints around it can still be moved and the rest of the body can still be trained. Jasmine works the shoulder, the trunk and the opposite side through the immobilization stage, so there is less to rebuild once the splint comes off.
Why the shoulder and trunk matter to a hand
An injured hand changes how the whole arm is used, and the compensations show up above the injury. Jasmine is a certified Reformer Pilates instructor and uses that training to work on trunk position, shoulder blade control and how load travels through the whole limb, rather than the injured joint on its own.
Before load is added
Where a joint is guarded or painful, Jasmine assesses skin glide, scar mobility and joint position first, and uses manual work and taping before adding load.

- Thumb and finger osteoarthritis
- Post-operative hand and upper limb rehabilitation
- Custom splinting
- Returning to lifting, sport and carrying after an upper limb injury

Qualifications
- BHSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy, Singapore Institute of Technology and Trinity College Dublin
- Diploma in Occupational Therapy, Nanyang Polytechnic, with Merit and Bronze Award
- MOH Holdings Healthcare Merit Award
- Registered with the Allied Health Professions Council, AHPC A1900217H
- Balanced Body certified Reformer Pilates instructor, over 214 hours of certification training
- Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute trained in pre- and postnatal Pilates and scoliosis
Why she works this way
Jasmine had her own postnatal recovery, including trigger digits and thumb pain from carrying an infant, and rebuilt strength through postnatal Pilates. It is part of why she works with women returning to exercise after birth.
How the work is structured
Every plan I write runs on the Phoenix Recovery Protocol: four stages, each with criteria to meet before you leave it. Most of what I see arrives after an operation, and hand therapy after surgery sets out how those weeks are run. Hand therapy covers the conditions we treat without surgery.
