I have been rehabilitating injuries since 1997. Over 1,000 cases across public and private hospitals in Singapore. In nearly thirty years of this work, the cases I have come to know best are knees after ACL reconstruction, and the long road back to sport.
An ACL repair is only half the recovery. The surgeon rebuilds the ligament. The months after decide whether you trust that knee again, whether you cut and land the way you used to, and whether you return to your sport at full speed or spend years protecting one leg. That second half is my job.
What thirty years teaches you.
It teaches you to look for the cause rather than treat the sore spot. Two cases stay with me. One patient came in with hip pain that had not moved, and the assessment pointed to a joint in his lower back rather than the hip itself. Change the target, change the plan.
Another came to me for neck pain, and something in my assessment did not fit the usual pattern, so I sent him back to his doctor for scans. It was a tumour. Physiotherapy was never going to be the answer there, and it was not meant to be. Knowing what belongs to me and what belongs to a doctor is part of the craft, and it is the part I would want you to judge me on.
How I work.
Hands-on manual therapy first, then the education and exercise that make the change hold. I pay close attention to how the lower back, hip and knee load each other, because pain in one is so often driven by another. My goal has not changed since 1997: the safest road back to your sport and your life, and an honest account of how long that road is.
What I treat
- Post-operative ACL reconstruction and return to sport
- Hip pain, including labral tears
- Knee injuries and post-operative knee rehabilitation
- Lower back problems that drive hip and knee pain
How the work is structured
Every plan I write runs on the Phoenix Recovery Protocol: four stages, each with criteria to meet before you leave it. If you have had an operation, physiotherapy after surgery sets out how those weeks are run. Physiotherapy covers everything else we see.
