About Mavis Tham
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Occupational Therapy from Glasgow Caledonian University, where I was awarded the McAllister Prize for Best Undergraduate Research. Living abroad gave me the opportunity to learn more about life, meaning, and independence, which continue to shape the way I practise today. After graduating in 2018, I immediately started my career at Sengkang General Hospital, where I worked across rehabilitation, neurology, geriatrics, surgical, and orthopaedic settings.
Over time, I found myself especially drawn to hand and upper limb rehabilitation, and eventually developed a strong clinical focus in this area. I have treated both operative and non-operative upper limb conditions across public and private settings. Conditions I commonly see include hand, wrist, and elbow fractures, tendon and ligament injuries, arthritis, complex hand trauma, and peripheral nerve injuries.
What I enjoy most about hand therapy is seeing how even small improvements can make a huge difference. Whether that means returning to work, caring for family, exercising, cooking, gaming, or simply being able to hold a cup comfortably again with less pain and more confidence.
My approach to therapy is practical, collaborative, and patient-centred. I believe rehabilitation works best when patients feel supported, understood, and are actively involved in their own recovery journey. I am grateful that my dedication to patient care was recognised with the Singapore Health Quality Service Award (Silver) for two consecutive years.
Outside of work, I am a pickleball and golf enthusiast. Good food is also a must! (and then burning it off at the gym). Beyond that, I enjoy travelling, photography and making coffee. Staying active myself helps me better appreciate how important it is for patients to return to the activities they love.
