Sports and deep tissue massage
Sports and Deep Tissue Massage in Singapore
Written by Norhayati Ahmad, Principal Sports & Deep Tissue Massage Therapist at Phoenix Rehab. Last reviewed 23 October 2026.
Slow, firm work into muscle that has tightened up from training or from long days at a desk. Done inside a physiotherapy clinic, by a sports trainer who has worked with Singapore national teams since 2010, with a physiotherapist and a hand therapist down the corridor if tight turns out to be something else.
$130 for 60 minutes. $190 for 90 minutes. $250 for 120 minutes. Serangoon on Fridays and Sundays, and Jurong East from its opening on 25 October 2026. Tanjong Pagar is next. WhatsApp us and we reply with the next two slots at the clinic you name.

Sports and deep tissue massage is slow, firm, focused work into muscles that have tightened from training, sport or long hours in one position. It is deeper than a relaxation massage and concentrates on the areas you say are tight rather than working evenly over the whole body. At Phoenix Rehab it is done in a physiotherapy clinic, so if the tightness is hiding an injury, the right person is in the next room.
Where you are tight, and what you have been doing
Most people who book this know exactly which spot it is. They have been pressing on it with a foam roller or a lacrosse ball for a fortnight and it keeps coming back by Thursday.
The foam roller is not wrong. It just cannot reach the deep layer, and it cannot tell you whether the muscle is tight because it is overworked or tight because it is guarding something. A therapist’s hands can feel the difference. That is the point of doing this inside a physiotherapy clinic.
Sports massage, deep tissue massage or physiotherapy?
The three get mixed up, and the wrong one wastes an hour. Here is how we sort it at the desk.
| You want | Book | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Muscles worked that are tight from training or a long working week, no injury | Sports and deep tissue massage, 60 to 120 minutes | Slow, firm work into the deep muscle layers in the areas you name. You control the pressure. |
| A specific injury, a joint that gives way, pain down an arm or leg, or pain that has lasted weeks | Assessment & Treatment with a physiotherapist, 45 minutes, $230 | The physiotherapist finds what is actually limiting you, treats it in the same appointment, and tells you which stage of recovery you are in. |
| Anything from the finger to the elbow | Assessment & Treatment with a hand therapist, 45 minutes, $230 | Our hand therapists work only on the finger, hand, wrist, forearm and elbow. |
| Deep work after your physiotherapist says the injury can take it | Sports and deep tissue massage, booked after physiotherapy | Your physiotherapist tells the massage therapist what to work on and what to leave alone. |
“Sports massage” and “deep tissue massage” overlap. Sports massage describes who it is for: the muscles you train with. Deep tissue describes the pressure and the pace. Nearly every appointment here uses both.
When to see a physiotherapist first
Massage works on tightness. It does not tell you why a muscle keeps tightening, and it cannot tell whether something has been injured. Book an Assessment & Treatment with a physiotherapist instead of a massage if you have:
- Pain that started with a specific moment: a fall, a twist, a pop, a lift that went wrong
- Swelling, bruising, or a joint that feels unstable or gives way
- Numbness, pins and needles or weakness in an arm or leg
- Pain that wakes you at night
- Pain in the same place that keeps coming back, or has lasted more than a few weeks
- Surgery in the area in the last few months
That appointment is 45 minutes, $230, nett, no GST. The physiotherapist finds what is limiting you and treats it in the same appointment. If massage belongs in the plan, they say so, and the massage therapist is in the same clinic. Calf pain with swelling in one leg, chest pain, or a sudden severe headache is a doctor’s problem first, not ours.
What happens in the appointment
The therapist asks where you are tight, what you have been doing, and whether anything hurts rather than just feels tight. If what you describe sounds like an injury, she tells you before she starts and books you with a physiotherapist instead. No charge for the conversation.
She then works through the areas you agreed on, slowly, with firm pressure. Tell her if it is more than you want. Deep does not have to mean painful. Expect some soreness for a day or two afterward, the way you feel after a hard workout.
Wear or bring loose clothing. Shorts help for legs. Drink water after. Leave the hard session for the next day.

Questions
Before you book
What is the difference between a sports massage and a relaxing massage?
A relaxing massage works lightly and evenly over the whole body. A sports or deep tissue massage works slowly and firmly into specific muscles you name, usually the ones tight from training or long hours in one position. You may feel sore for a day or two afterward. It is not the one to book for a rest.
How much does a sports massage cost in Singapore?
At Phoenix Rehab, $130 for 60 minutes, $190 for 90 minutes and $250 for 120 minutes, nett, no GST, at every clinic that offers it. There are no packages.
Is deep tissue massage painful?
It is firm, and tight spots feel tender while they are worked on. It should not be sharp, and you can ask for less pressure at any point. Soreness for a day or two afterward is common.
How often should I come?
That depends on what you are doing. Some people come once when something has tightened up; some book regularly through a heavy training block. If the same area keeps tightening, the therapist suggests a physiotherapist looks at why.
Can I have a massage if I am injured?
Not as the first step. If the pain started with a specific injury, or comes with swelling, numbness or weakness, see a physiotherapist first. Once your physiotherapist has assessed and treated it and says deeper work is safe, sports or deep tissue massage can follow in the same clinic.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No. WhatsApp us, name the clinic, and Phoebe replies with the next two slots on a massage day there.
