Physiotherapy and Hand Therapy in Singapore: What It Costs and What to Expect

Every appointment is $230. Your first one and your last one.

There is no separate consultation fee, no assessment surcharge and no package you have to buy up front. One price, one 45 minute appointment, and you are treated on the day you come in.

No doctor’s referral needed to start. Five clinics across Singapore.

The price, stated plainly

What it costs

$230 per 45 minute appointment, nett, with no GST. That is the only price at the front desk. It is the same whether it is your first visit or your twelfth, whether you see a physiotherapist or a hand therapist, and whichever clinic you attend.

You are not buying a block of appointments. You are on a named recovery program with four stages, and your therapist writes down how many appointments the current stage needs. The desk multiplies that by $230. Nobody at the desk recommends, sells or quotes you a package.

One appointment

$230. Pay as you attend. This is what most people do, and it stays available for the whole program.

A problem program

12 appointments, $2,760 in all. Conservative conditions with a known shape, such as tennis elbow or thumb base arthritis.

A post-surgical program

12 appointments, $2,760 in all. If you need more, your therapist shows you which stage criteria are still open, and each extra appointment is $230.

Splints and a small number of add-ons are priced separately, because they are a physical item made for you. Your therapist tells you the price before anything is made.

The question we get asked most

Do I actually get treated at the first appointment?

Yes. Most of the 45 minutes is treatment.

We do assess. We have to work out what is actually driving the problem, and that assessment carries on while we work. But the bulk of the appointment is hands on: manual therapy, joint mobilization, soft tissue and tendon work, and where it applies, ultrasound, taping or a splint molded on the spot.

You do not pay for a consultation and come back another day to be treated.

One therapist, the same one every visit, for the whole 45 minutes.

You leave with a written plan, a home program, and the date of your next review already in the diary.

Before you arrive

Your first appointment

How early should I arrive?

Ten to fifteen minutes before your appointment time, for your first visit only. That is registration and your intake form. After the first visit you can arrive at your appointment time. Arriving late does not extend the appointment, because the therapist has someone booked after you.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear something loose that lets us get to the area being treated. Jeans are awkward for a knee, a fitted long sleeve is awkward for an elbow. Bring any referral letter, operation note, discharge summary, scan report or X-ray you have. None of it is required, but all of it is useful.

If you have had surgery, the operation note matters more than anything else you can bring. It tells us what was repaired and what your surgeon’s protocol allows to move, and when.

How long is an appointment?

Every physiotherapy and hand therapy appointment is 45 minutes, first visit and follow-ups alike. That is the standard unit and it is what the $230 buys. You are not moved onto a shorter appointment once you are established.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No. You can book directly and physiotherapy can be your first port of call. We work with your doctor or surgeon where there is one, and we will contact them if anything needs clarifying, but no referral is needed to start.

If you have had surgery, bring the operation note anyway. We follow your surgeon’s protocol, and where there is no protocol we contact the operating team.

Will it hurt?

Some of it can be uncomfortable, and how much depends on what is wrong and how irritable it currently is. Your therapist works within what you can tolerate, and adjusts when you say so. Tell them the intensity, when it happens and how long it lasts, because that information changes the plan.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. If you cannot drive, cannot weight bear, or simply want someone in the room, that is fine. For a post-surgical hand, having the person who will help you at home hear the instructions first hand is usually worth it.

The honest answer

How many appointments will I need?

Nobody can tell you the number before they have assessed you, and anyone who gives you a number over the phone is guessing. What we can tell you is how the decision gets made.

Recovery runs in four stages, and you move up a stage when you meet the criteria for it, not when a number of weeks has passed.

  1. Calm & Protect. Settling pain and swelling, and protecting the injury or the repair.
  2. Move & Mobilize. Getting movement back, within what the tissue will safely allow.
  3. Rebuild & Strengthen. Strength, stability and stamina.
  4. Return & Perform. The demands of your job, your sport and your daily life.

None of the four is passive. Settling an angry joint is work. Range is trained back, not waited for.

What changes the number: how severe the injury is, whether there was surgery and what kind, how long it has been left, and whether the home program actually gets done between appointments. That last one moves the number more than most people expect.

Diary and changes

Booking, cancelling and rescheduling

How do I book?

Message us on WhatsApp, or use the booking form. The booking assistant runs around the clock and is synced to every clinic calendar, so the slots it offers you are real openings rather than a request that somebody has to come back to.

You can also message a clinic directly if you already know which one you want. Every clinic number is at the bottom of this page.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Tell us as early as you can, and at least 24 hours before, so we can offer the slot to someone on the waiting list. A cancellation with less notice than that is charged at the full appointment fee, unless something genuinely unforeseen happened, in which case tell us what happened.

Can I see the same therapist every time?

Yes, and for a program you should. Continuity is most of the value: the same person measuring the same joint the same way each visit is how anyone can tell whether the plan is working. Your review appointments are dated into the diary with that therapist at your assessment.

Can I switch clinics partway through?

Yes. Your notes, your measurements and your surgeon’s protocol move with you, so changing clinic does not mean starting the history again. If a different clinic is easier to get to on a weekday, say so and we will move you.

Paying

Payment and insurance

How can I pay?

Cash in Singapore dollars, Visa and Mastercard, NETS, PayNow, GrabPay, Apple Pay and cheque. You pay at the end of each appointment unless you have chosen to pay for a stage in advance.

Can I claim this on insurance?

Often yes, particularly where the claim is tied to an operation, but it depends entirely on your policy. Three things are worth asking your insurer before you come: how much is covered in dollars, whether they require a doctor’s or surgeon’s referral first, and whether they will bill us directly or expect you to pay and claim.

Where there is no direct billing arrangement, you pay and claim. We provide an itemized invoice, and a clinical report if your insurer asks for one. Send us your policy details on WhatsApp before you book and we will tell you what applies.

Can I pay for a stage in advance?

You can, and it is optional. It is never the whole program, only the number of appointments your therapist has written down for the stage you are on. Paying as you attend stays available at the same $230.

About the profession

Physiotherapy, hand therapy and who is treating you

Are physiotherapists regulated in Singapore?

Yes. Physiotherapists and occupational therapists are governed by the Allied Health Professions Act and must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council to practise here. Every clinician at Phoenix carries a current AHPC registration number, and each one is published on their own profile page.

See the team and their registration numbers →

What is the difference between physiotherapy and hand therapy?

Hand therapy covers the hand, wrist and elbow, and is delivered by occupational therapists with additional training in that region, including splint making. Physiotherapy covers the rest: shoulder, back, hip, knee, ankle and foot. Hand and wrist cases are managed by our hand therapy team.

If you are not sure which you need, message us and describe the problem. We route you.

Hand therapy → · Physiotherapy →

What does treatment actually involve?

Manual therapy, joint mobilization, soft tissue and scar work, tendon gliding, graded exercise, taping, custom splinting, ultrasound and shockwave, depending on the problem and the stage you are in. Your therapist explains what they are doing and why, and what you need to do between appointments.

Therapists assess, treat, splint, prescribe exercise, educate and refer. Medication, injections and imaging are a doctor’s territory, and where you need one of those we say so and point you to the right person.

What do you treat?

Musculoskeletal and orthopedic problems, post-surgical rehabilitation, chronic pain, sports injuries and women’s health physiotherapy, plus the full hand, wrist and elbow caseload.

Every condition we treat → · After surgery →

My recovery has stalled. Is it too late?

Usually not, and later is harder rather than impossible. Stiffness that has been there six months takes longer to shift than stiffness at six weeks, which is a reason to come in now rather than a reason to leave it. Bring whatever paperwork you have.

The Stalled Recovery Review →

Send us your referral letter or scan report

We will tell you what it means for your rehabilitation, when therapy should start, and roughly how long it takes. No appointment needed to ask, and no charge for it.

We explain what the report means for your recovery and the likely timeframe. We do not diagnose from documents, which needs an assessment.

Amazing experience with Phoenix Rehab, was assisted by Mavis. She’s very kind and professional and did thorough check on my wrist. I feel very comfortable during the process. I went in for thermoplastic splint, and everything went smoothly. She was able to address my needs on my left wrist sprain. They were prompt with appointment process and inquiry. Also the clinic is very close to Tanjong Pagar MRT. I highly recommend!

Huge shoutout to Yuna Zhang from Phoenix Rehab for helping in my recovery from golfer’s elbow 🙌 I walked in with persistent elbow pain that was affecting workouts and everyday tasks, and Yuna immediately made me feel confident I was in the right hands. She took the time to properly assess my condition, explain the root cause, and tailor a treatment plan to my specific needs instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach. What I really appreciated was how personalised every session felt. The exercises she gave me were practical, easy to follow, and actually worked. Within a short time, the pain reduced significantly and my strength and mobility improved much faster than I expected. On top of that, the pricing is very reasonable and affordable, which made committing to recovery much easier. Professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring — highly recommend Yuna at Phoenix Rehab if you’re dealing with hand-related sports injuries 💪
